Fencing Day

Free for iPhone · Android later

Film every bout. Never sort a video again.

Fencing Day is a camera app for fencing parents. It knows which bout is next, records at 60 frames per second, and files each video in your Google Drive with the opponent and the score in its name.

Coming soon to the App Store. Leave your email and we will tell you the day it is out.

How it works

Your tournament day, step by step.

Snap the pool sheet.

Take a picture of your fencer's pool sheet, with every name and number in view, or type the names. The app works out the bout order and which side of the strip your fencer is on. For direct elimination, add a picture of the bracket around your fencer, and a new one after each win.

Record when your fencer is up.

The app knows who is fencing and films with the settings fencing needs: 60 frames per second, and a fast shutter when the venue is bright enough, so the blade stays sharp. After the bout you tap the score.

Find it in your Drive.

If you connect Google Drive, each video goes to your own Drive, in a folder for each fencer and event, with the opponent and the score in the file name.

Fencing them again?

Type an opponent's name. Every past bout against them comes up, newest first, with the score and the video to watch before the bout.

Everything in one place

Open Drive. Every bout is already named.

No more scrolling through a camera roll of clips with numbers for names. Each file name has the opponent and the score. Uploads go over Wi-Fi unless you allow cellular, and the videos stay in your Drive even if you disconnect the app.

Privacy and safety

Your kid's videos stay with you.

No account. No server with your data.

Your fencers' names, pools, scores and videos stay on your phone. We cannot see them.

Your own Google Drive.

Connecting Drive is optional. The app asks Google for access to only the files it creates. It cannot see or change any other file in your Drive, and you can remove access at any time.

Pool sheet pictures are not kept.

When you snap a pool or a bracket, the app reads the names on your phone. It does not keep the picture, and it never uploads it.

Nothing from children.

The app has no accounts and collects no information from children. Opponents' names stay on your phone and in your Drive. They are never sent to us.

Questions

What parents ask.

What does it cost?
Nothing. Fencing Day is free.
Which phones does it work on?
iPhone. Android comes later.
Do I need Google Drive?
No. Drive is optional. Without it, videos stay on your phone. With it, each video uploads to your own Drive in a folder for each fencer and event, along with a small file listing that event's bouts and scores. On a new phone, you can restore your events, scores and videos from Drive.
Does it handle direct elimination?
Yes. Add a picture of the bracket around your fencer, with the names next to theirs easy to read. After each win, add a new one for the next opponent.
What if the app gets a bout wrong?
Fencing Day works out the bout order, which side of the strip your fencer is on, and the next opponent from the pictures and names you give it. Always check against the referee's sheet. The official results come from the tournament officials, not from the app.
Am I allowed to film?
Follow each tournament's and club's rules about filming.
How do I delete something?
Delete a bout's video from the bout's screen, or a whole tournament from its page. You choose whether it goes from your phone only or from your Drive too. Deleting the app removes everything on your phone.
Is this from USA Fencing?
No. Fencing Day is not affiliated with USA Fencing or any tournament organizer.
